Love at First Sight: My Lazy Oaf Mickey Sweatshirt

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

So you know them tales of couples where one claims the moment they saw their partners they fell in love and knew they were the ones bla bla...i had that sort of emotion course through my 26 year old Nigerian veins. I was browsing through Lazy Oaf's website and saw this Mickey Sweatshirt priced down from £75 to £45 and knew i was gonna buy it , even if it meant me eating baked beans for a few days.

So i patiently waited all the while contemplating if it was a sensible purchase. I even went as far as going to Primark to find suitable alternatives but they were not all over print and certainly not as eclectic as this.  Finally summoned courage and went over to the Lazy Oaf Carnaby street store and whipped out my debit card, the rest is history.

Lambretta Launches SS12 With a Capsule Collection of Suiting

Monday, April 2, 2012

The mod subculture, encapsulated by Lambretta, is often characterized as a fashion- obsessed andhedonistic cult of the hyper-cool young adults. Two youth subcultures helpedpave the way for mod fashion by breaking new ground; the beatniks, with theirbohemian image of berets and black turtlenecks, and the Teddy Boys, from whichmod fashion inherited its immaculate dandy look.

The Teddy Boys paved the way for making male interest in fashionsocially acceptable. Lambrettalaunches SS12 with a capsule collection of suiting, true to its mod roots. In keepingwith the pristine dandy look the collection comprises two and three-piece tonicsuits, cut with precise lines and accented with contrast detailing. Thesilhouette is razor sharp, the two button jackets with narrow lapels areshorter and trousers slimmer.

Style Conundrum: Men's Floral Print Polo Shirts

Monday, March 5, 2012

Floral prints are bang on trend and probably the most effeminate kind of prints and as a gentleman you might wonder, how do i pull this off without looking like a girl boy.  The easiest floral prints to wear are polos as they are inherently sporty and add some sort of formality and masculinity to the look. There are certain steps that need to be taken to add some swag used here for effect to your look and they are:-  (See Them After The Jump)

- Limit your accessories: Its best to wear one or two friendship bracelets, avoid rings totally if you can or wear one. There's no need for a neck chain as well. You already got a lot going with the prints anyway.

- Pair Polo with Mute Colored Jeans: I know in summer its allowed to wear technicolor jeans but I'd rather not pair them with floral prints which already contain fluorescent colors. A solid pair of blue or black denim is a safe choice.

- Wear The right shoes: Cuban heeled shoes or ankle hi gladiator sandals are not the best way to go as even Russell Brand wears his heels with solids not floral print. If you do not want to come off as some fairy godmother the foundation for your outfit should be plimsolls, boat shoes or casual loafers.

After going through all of these, you should appear stylish/trendy without looking like you tried too hard.

Note: This is just my opinion and I'm not here to teach you how to dress, just offering quick tips. Feel free to add more or disagree in the the comment box.

My London Fashion Week Day 1 Look via lelook.eu

Friday, March 2, 2012

My outfit for the day shot by lelook.eu had to be school ready as most of you might not know that I'm currently in Grad school studying for a business degree, so there's no way i would have gone to school looking like an alien eccentric enough for fashion week. Peek closer shots after the jump as well more details on my outfit.

Hat from Ghana: I was in Ghana 5 times last year alone and already consider myself part Ghanaian, i can speak their pidgin so i guess that counts for some kind of acculturation :) .... i got this hat at their arts center and its made of traditional Ghanaian fabric Kente.  i loved the colors and shapes from the moment i saw it.

Denim Jacket Levi's vintage: Been searching for the right wash for a bit...i got one from H&M on one of my frenzied shopping days but it looks basically new and nothing more to me now. So i marched to the vintage section at Topman's Oxford store and copped this.

Green shirt River Island: Shirt was on sale for £20 marked down from £35 so i grabbed it :)

Watch Casio: I've got 3 Casio databank watches and they're the only kind of watches i wear, at least for now till i'm able to comfortably afford a Rolex without going broke for months. I got the 3 of them from diffrent sources; one in Nairobi, another from Asos and the third from amazon. Y'all should check out Amazon, they got some good deals.

Black jeans H&M: Basic black jeans..what more can i say :)

Converse vintage (Topman): It's become  a tradition -and i use the word 'tradition' cos this has grown bigger than a mere habit- that the moment i walk into Topman at Oxford circus i turn right and go straight to the vintage section to scan the new additions. Got the cool converse sneakers there...i mean look at them, why would anyone want to get rid of them? well whoever owned it before me, all i can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart :)
