Rafael Nadal ended Roger Federer's five years of dominance at Wimbledon, beating the top-ranked player 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7 Sunday in the men's final.
Nadal was playing in his third straight final at the All England Club, but finally managed to get the better of the 12-time Grand Slam champion. Federer had 12 chances to break Nadal through the first three sets, but only managed to convert one of them.
Nadal, a four-time French Open champion, also beat Federer in the final at Roland Garros in each of the last three years.
Federer's loss ends his 65-match winning streak on grass, and his 40-match winning streak at Wimbledon.
